Imagine: you’re walking in the city at night. It’s dark, though a couple of streetlights are on. They don’t really add anything, except light. You keep walking, eager to get home, until something catches your eye. A building. Well, not the building itself to be honest. The facade, that’s what’s remarkable. The range of content that’s displayed…  You’re drawn to it. You can’t bring yourself to walk away. That is what a digital facade can do for your building.

What is a digital facade?

A digital facade can help you to create attention, convey emotions, aid orientation and most importantly, help you to boost your visibility. Still, that doesn’t really explain what it is. A digital facade is a facade that consists of various types of lighting. One of the most popular facades is a digital LED facade, which gives you the possibility to control each LED node separately. This means that one node can display a red color, while another stays white. That way, it also allows you to display content on it. But this can be done in a variety of ways.

Ahoy

A prime example of a digital facade would be Rotterdam Ahoy. With its 1.000 m2 LED facade, it sure is an enormous eye-catcher. It’s ideal for sending messages, but it is also a great way to promote live content. It informs and entertains visitors. In short: it’s an effective communication tool. And because it looks so good it’s also something the Rotterdam people are proud of!

The uniqueness of this facade is seen in the way it was built. The Rotterdam Ahoy facade consists of three parts. The middle part has the LED nodes build closer together, thus gaining a higher resolution and thus displaying a better-quality image. The two side panels also consist of LED lights, but the distance between the lights is slightly bigger. This gives the sides a lower resolution which in turn makes sure that the focus of the viewer remains on the middle part of the facade. It is an attention catcher both day and night and makes sure that waiting for your favorite artists to perform is both entertaining and informing.

Holland Casino Venlo

Another iconic building with a digital facade is Holland Casino Vegas, ehh…. Venlo. With its spectacular facade you might think you are in Vegas, even though you never leave Dutch soil. That is mainly thanks to the LED facade, which makes a real eyecatcher of the building. The facade consists of a grid comprised of enormous glass sequins, behind which the LED lights are placed. The digital facade not only shows each and every color of the rainbow, but it displays video content, too. The entire digital facade can be programmed based on seasons, theme-nights, or a specific target audience.

With this digital facade the building has become a landmark for the region. It is a great way to boost the brand identity. And based on the ability to display video content, it is also a unique way to communicate with the target audience.

Breepark

Do what you love, that’s the motto of Breepark Breda. The event location was looking for a way to add a better experience and a better vibe. But how to do that? By building a digital facade! The result is simply fabulous.

This facade is different from the others in the list: due to the space between the LED nodes, displaying high quality video content is not an easy feat. However, the color changing aspect remains. And another main point for the facade of Breepark is that it is easy in use!

As you have read, there are many ways to build a digital facade. But one thing is certain: having a digital facade is the way to go if you want your facade to be in the spotlight.
